“Self-focusing arrest of femtosecond laser pulses in air at different pressures”，其中的arrest应该如何理解才是比较合适的呢？

The nonlinear propagation of femtosecond laser pulses through air produces self-guided high-intensity plasma filaments for laser input powers above some critical power.其中的filament是什么？？

The filamentation process starts at the self-focusing distance，其中的filamentation又是什么？
