The California-based company announced a massive global recall of 2.9 million units of its multi-purpose contact lens solution after bacteria was found in it last week.
The solution producer said customers should send the products by ordinary mail, together with their ID card name, ID card number, mailing address, telephone number and postage fee receipt, to either of the recall centers in Beijing, Shanghai and Zhuhai.
The company will refund customers in line with retail prices within four weeks. It will provide 10 yuan (US$1.27) to cover the ordinary mail fee if the receipt is not included, but won't pay for Express Mail Services.
Customers can return up to five units of the solution, but they must be mailed in one package. Product labels must be visible on the returned solution, however, customers don't need to mail their original receipt, the company said.
Mailing addresses of recall centers:
Beijing: 7 Fen Xiang, Jiannei Dajie Post Office, Beijing
Postal Code: 100001
Shanghai: PO Box 040002, Shanghai
Postal Code: 200040
Zhuhai: PO Box 333, Gongbei Post Office, Zhuhai, Guangdong
Postal Code: 519020
Customers can check whether their solutions are included in the recalled batches by visiting the company's Websites (www.amochina.com or www.amo-inc.com), or by calling 800-988-0903 for more information.
After spot checks in Japan, the company discovered that some of its lens solution contained water-borne bacteria, so it stopped sales immediately and informed the US Food and Drug Administration.
The company's investigation linked two of its four production lines in China to the infected products, which were also sold in the United States, Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
