About the Conference

The 8th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN 2009) invites high-quality recent research results in the areas of optical devices, components, communications, transmission, network architectures, protocols, design, management and operation. The main goal of the conference is to bring together academics, scientists, professionals, engineers and industrialists who work in the field of optical communications and networks and to foster the exchange of information, ideas and experiences among them in this fast-moving and exciting field. ICOCN has been held annually in Asia-Pacific region since 2002. We look forward to your participation to make this conference a success. Papers presenting original work in, but not limited to, the following technical areas are invited:

Optical Networking:

Network planning, design and modelling, access/metro networks, IP over WDM networks, protection/restoration, GMPLS, QoS issues, routing and wavelength assignment, multiple access techniques, fairness control in optical LANs and MANs.

Optical Switching and Network Elements:


Photonic switching systems, optical cross-connects and add-drop multiplexers, optical IP routers, photonic packet switching, monitoring techniques, optical signal processing, wavelength conversion, optical interfaces and terminals, optical interconnections.

Optical Transmission:


WDM transmission systems, transmission subsystems, transmission impairments mitigation, advanced modulation formats, ultrahigh bitrate transmission systems, nonlinear systems, optical regeneration, radio over fiber.

Optical Active Components and Modules:

Optical modulators and switches, semiconductor optical amplifiers, semiconductor lasers and detectors, fiber amplifiers and lasers, Raman and Brillouin amplifiers, optical MEMS, photonic integrated circuits/modules, VCSELs.

Optical Passive Components:

Fiber-based devices, dispersion compensators, optical tunable filters, optical circulators and isolators, optical waveguide-based devices, fiber and waveguide filters, microstructured waveguides and devices, arrayed waveguide devices, optical splitting and directional couplers, photonic crystal fibers.
