EF-ENHANCED FIBRE TECHNOLOGY
Fibre lasers have raised everyone’s expectations of laser marking systems in terms of reliability, longevity of the
consumables, laser beam quality and power efficiency.
Before the introduction of pulsed fibre lasers into marking systems, having to change a lamp every 600 hours or a
diode every 8,000 hours was considered the norm. Most lasers needed a major annual service to ensure the water
cooling system was clean, the water pumps were not worn and that the exposed optics had not been
contaminated by the normally aggressive environment they were being used in.
Fibre lasers brought with them effectively maintenance free use for greater than 17,000 hours, dispensed with the
need for water cooling and increased the total system electrical to laser efficiency ten fold from around 1% to
nearly 10%.
None of the high power, critical optics are exposed to the environment eliminating the possibility of system
degradation due to their contamination.
The beam quality produced is nearly as perfect as is theoretically possible, unlike lamp pumped lasers that for the
same power would have up to 10 times bigger spot sizes with the same optical configuration or a five times smaller
depth of focus if used at the same spot size as the fibre laser. Even compared with conventional diode pumped
lasers, fibre lasers can have over three times smaller spot sizes.
So fibre lasers have very few drawbacks and many advantages over the lasers being previously offered. However,,,,,, |
