BEIJING,Nov.27 -- Customers can send their problematic contact lens solution to Advanced Medical Optics till December 31 to receive a refund, the company said on its Website yesterday. The California-based company announced a massive global recall of 2.9 million units of its multi-purpose contact lens solution after bacteria was found in it last week. The solution producer said customers should send the products by ordinary mail, together with their ID card name, ID card number, mailing address, telephone number and postage fee receipt, to either of the recall centers in Beijing, Shanghai and Zhuhai. The company will refund customers in line with retail prices within four weeks. It will provide 10 yuan (US$1.27) to cover the ordinary mail fee if the receipt is not included, but won't pay for Express Mail Services. Customers can return up to five units of the solution, but they must be mailed in one package. Product labels must be visible on the returned solution, however, customers don't need to mail their original receipt, the company said. After spot checks in Japan, the company discovered that some of its lens solution contained water-borne bacteria, so it stopped sales immediately and informed the US Food and Drug Administration. The company's investigation linked two of its four production lines in China to the infected products, which were also sold in the United States, Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
