Position Summary:
The position of Business Development Manager, China – Richardson Gratings is a direct sales position responsible to identify, qualify and quantify new OEM gratings business opportunities and customers in China. The Business Development Manager (BDM) will develop tactical sales plans, coordinate quotes, follow-up on quotations and win orders. The BDM will also provide market data and guidance to the gratings business through customer interaction. This BDM is the primary point of contact between the Richardson Gratings business and its existing and potential OEM customers in China, and is responsible for complete and correct communication of customer specifications, requirements and expectations.
Position Responsibilities:
▪ Undertake all activities required to generate OEM gratings sales and account development in the Territory.
▪ Establish and implement procedures for effective prospecting, lead qualification and revenue growth.
▪ Gather critical information from customers needed to generate quotes and provide that information to the gratings business for quote creation by the business.
▪ Deliver quotes to the customer, follow up with the customer and win orders. Work with the gratings business to resolve any issues needed to win an order.
▪ Work closely with members of the gratings business, primarily the Business Development Manager for Asia, to proactively develop sales strategies, action plans and sales tools to generate new business at existing and new accounts.
▪ Travel to and support market-specific trade shows to identify new business opportunities. Make arrangements for, and travel with, gratings business personnel to visit existing and potential customers.
▪ Provide sales activity reports, trip reports, order forecasts and information about new business opportunities.
▪ Create a “market map” of all gratings opportunities to assess our position in the Territory. Create and update “target list” of opportunities.
▪ Track and prioritize all new business development activities.
▪ Participate in regular department meetings and calls to communicate opportunities, needs and objectives.
▪ Assist in resolving both technical and commercial issues with customers within the Territory.
▪ Other relevant duties as may be required.
Requirements:
▪ Technical background with a minimum of five (5) years experience in the biomedical, life and health sciences, or analytical instrumentation markets preferred.
▪ Experience with optical components business-related applications and/or industry sales preferred.
▪ Proven track records in direct field sales role with proven continued sales growth.
▪ Experienced in business development work with Asian OEM regional customers (particularly China).
▪ Ability to engage the business and customers from the earliest (conceptual) stage through winning the order.
▪ Experienced in working with sales management, production and engineering for business development and key account management.
▪ Good interpersonal skills; self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
▪ Willing to travel 40% of his/her time within the Territory and visit the gratings business in the United States a minimum of twice per year for product & business training, business reviews and sales meetings.
▪ Bachelor degree in technical field (e.g. science or engineering) is desired.
▪ Good verbal language capability for English, Mandarin.
▪ Good written capability for English (business communication level), Chinese.
▪ Contract and price negotiation experience.
▪ Computer literate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Training:
Five (5) to ten (10) days of training at the Richardson Gratings factory in Rochester, New York, USA is expected per year.
The successful candidate is expected will travel to Rochester for training within sixty (60) days of acceptance.
