1) Senior Design Engineers “Switchgear Products”>>

Candidates are responsible for engineering activities related to the mechanical and electrical design, development and manufacture of electrical switchgear products used in medium voltage electrical power distribution systems. These products are designed and manufactured by Cooper Power Systems in the LACE>USALACE> and elsewhere but will be manufactured locally in LACE>ChinaLACE> and sold in both LACE>ChinaLACE> and international export markets. >>

The LACE>LACENAME>CooperLACENAME> LACENAME>PowerLACENAME> LACENAME>SystemsLACENAME> LACENAME>TechnicalLACENAME> LACETYPE>CenterLACETYPE>LACE> is located within the LACE>LACENAME>ThomasLACENAME> LACENAME>A.LACENAME> LACENAME>EdisonLACENAME> LACENAME>RDLACENAME> LACETYPE>CenterLACETYPE>LACE> (LACE>ShanghaiLACE>), which is responsible for all product engineering activities within Cooper China. The LACE>LACENAME>TechnicalLACENAME> LACETYPE>CenterLACETYPE>LACE> currently has 18 persons and will expand to more than 60 over the next few years. It contains three centers of excellence. These are Power Capacitors, Switchgear and Controls, Cable Accessories and Transformer Components. >>

The position includes responsibility for the following activities: >>

· Independent design and development of the electrical switchgear apparatus to fulfill all required technical specifications related but not confined to – >>

o high voltage insulation, surge protection, partial discharge and corona suppression, >>

o operating current thermal and erosion conditions, >>

o over current and fault current withstand capability,>>

o withstand of environmental conditions such as temperature-cycling, UV radiation, corrosive and freezing precipitation, oil, electrical discharge, mechanical stress such as seismic vibration and wind.>>

· Managing design and development projects using corporate project management procedures.>>

· Interdisciplinary contact with US engineering design teams as well as with procurement teams, vendors, standards institutions and testing laboratories. >>

· Determination of technical design requirements and formulation of technical specifications for the described products. >>

· Generation of suitable design and type test programs and identify facilities in LACE>ChinaLACE> or elsewhere to conduct them. >>

· Perform design and certification test programs and obtain type test reports for the new or modified products.>>

· Provide timely and comprehensive product engineering support for related local manufacturing operations.>>

· Identify appropriate materials and manufacturing processes and verify proposed material and process conformance with design specification. >>

· Together with the Procurement Team investigate and evaluate vendor suitability. Formulate and carry out test programs to establish vendor capability and specification fulfillment both during trial and ongoing production.>>

Background / Education Requirements>>

Education Level:>>

· Masters or higher degree in mechanical or electrical engineering. Bachelor degree also acceptable if candidate has demonstrated experience and capability.>>

>>

Major/ Specialty:>>

· Candidates must be able to demonstrate extensive first-hand experience in designing switchgear products used in medium or high voltage power systems. >>

· Experience should preferably be of interruption technology e.g. vacuum, SF6, oil, air, but can also be with mechanical or dielectric design of the apparatus e.g. mechanism, actuators, encapsulation.>>

· At least 5 years in closely related fields.>>

General experience: >>

>>

· Understanding or design experience of other products used in medium or high voltage power transmission and distribution systems e.g. transformers, regulators, capacitor banks, fuses, arresters, cables, motors. >>

· Good verbal and written command and comprehension of the English language.>>

· Preferably with international experience or experience with international organizations.>>
