China International Optoelectronic Exposition
With China’’s opening to the world at the end of the last century, its optoelectronic industry developed rapidly. But in comparison, the exchange of information about the industry lagged considerably. Under these conditions, the first China optoelectronic expo was launched to meet the information demands of the optoelectronic industry.
During the late 1990s, the international optoelectronic industry developed rapidly: information highways based on laser technology, digital technology, multimedia technology, optical fiber communication, Internet, and CATV all developed at an explosive pace. Optoelectronic products such as PDAs, mobile computers, intelligent mobile phones, and digital cameras changed dramatically one generation to the next, which lead people into the new optoelectronic era. Although the development of China’’s optoelectronic industry was in its infancy, the industry trends were very dramatic. As a result, there was a need to introduce the most advanced optoelectronic technologies and international companies to China and, conversely, show the domestically developed advanced optoelectronic technologies and products to the world. Shenzhen is the window through which China opens to the world and the world know about China. Abutting Hong Kong, Shenzhen was ideally located as the opening to the world’’s optoelectronic industry. Du
ring the late 1990s, Shenzhen also developed its own optoelectronic industry. Chinese companies such as ZTE, Huawei, and Photon expanded in Shenzhen, and several well-known international optoelectronic companies such as Ricoh and Olympus in Japan and Lucent in U.S. had set up offices and subsidiaries in China, confident in the huge potential of China’’s optoelectronic market and favorable investment environment. A good location and strong growing optoelectronic industry provide the unique conditions for the emergence of the China International Optoelectronic Exposition. With the purpose to develop and exchange information about optoelectronic technologies, the first China optoelectronic expo was launched in Shenzhen. Since then, the China International Optoelectronic Expo has achieved great success, exhibiting and trading 15,000 products representing the latest technologies from the international and domestic optoelectronic industry. The expo earned the claims that it was the Olympic conference in China’’s op
toelectronic industry, the largest and most reputed international exhibition for the optoelectronic industry, and the first well-known exhibition in China optoelectronic industry.
After the first successful China International Optoelectronic Exposition in 1998-the largest optoelectronic exhibition in China in existence, a second China International Optoelectronic Exposition was held in early 2001. The expo attracted 26,000 professional visitors with 6,000 m2 of exhibiting space showcasing 120 optoelectronic companies and 2000 companies representatives introducing products and looking for industry partners. In total, 203 trade and cooperation contracts were filed as a result of the expo.
The third China International Optoelectronic Exposition was held in September 2001, in the same year as the second one. Its size increased dramatically. The exhibiting space was increased to 10,000 m2. Over 60,000 professionals visited, and more than 10 world famous American companies exhibited including JDSU, Tektronix、New Focus、Aopu、Sunex、Mp optical. Also 10 Japanese companies including Nippon Sheet Glass、Optorun、FUJION exhibited in addition to well-known optoelectronic companies from the U.K. (Skysine, Australia (Fasten), and Korea (Coorstek). China’’s Photon Optoelectronic, in Shenzhen, Chutian Laser in Wuhan, and 40 Hong Kong optoelectronic companies also exhibited. In total, there were 80 foreign companies from eight nations and regions that joined this exposition. The number of visiting enterprises grew to 350. In addition, almost all the famous Chinese optoelectronic institutes-41 in total-joined the exhibition, institutes such as the Changchun Optical-Mechanic institute of the Chinese Ac
ademy of Sciences, and the Shanghai Optical-Mechanic Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The 21st China Optoelectronic Industry Forum-which was held concurrently with the China optoelectronic exposition-invited Mr. Mu (Guoguang Mu), President of China Optical Society, as the master, and also invited Professor Daheng Wang, member of both the Chinese Academy of Science and Engineering, to attend and address the forum. During these four years, the China International Optoelectronic Exposition achieved its goal of establishing a platform for Chinese and international optoelectronic technology enterprises to communicate and learn from each other and a platform for exhibiting China’’s optoelectronic technologies and image to the world. The China International Optoelectronic Exposition, in gathering the well-known companies in optoelectronic industry together, acts in an important role to promote the communication and development of the Chinese optoelectronic industry and to establish a global optoelectro
nic conference.
The fourth China International Optoelectronic Exposition was held from September 6, 2002 to September 9, 2002. Five exhibition halls housed 15,00 booths, within 30,000 m2 of exhibition space. About 870 companies including 200 foreign companies exhibited. Apart from repeat exhibitors such as America’’s Lucent Technologies, France’’s Alcatel, Japan’’s FUJION, there were also many new exhibitors such as Olympus, Sumitomo, NEC, Santec, Canada’’s Nortel, and America’’s Agilent Technologies participated, introduced advanced technologies such as high performance DWDM series of products and manufacturing technologies. Well known companies in China’’s optoelectronic industry such as Hengtong Group、Chengdu Corning、Liwen Co.,Ltd also come with the latest in optoelectronic products. In addition, over 40 institutes including China Optical Technology Group、the Changchun Optical-Mechanic institute of the Chinese Academy of Science, the Shanghai Optica-Mechanic institute, the Xi’’an Optical-Mechanic institute also participate
d. As a result, the total number of institutes at this exposition exceeding the total for the first three exhibitions combined. Two exhibits showcased advanced optoelectronic technologies-fiber welding technology and laser technology with painless and harmless to visitors at the fourth China International Optoelectronic Exposition.
Ting Zhang, Former Minister of China’’s Electronic Industry Ministry, Standing Member of China’’s People’’s Congress, and reputation chair of the China Electronic Business Association, and Professor Daheng Wang, respected member of the Chinese Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy Engineering, both encourage all with words to go forward and develop the exhibition into one showing international famous products and technologies . . . . sighting the rapid development of current optoelectronic industry, promoting the global communication industry.
The fifth China International Optoelectronic Exposition will be held in Shenzhen from September 6, 2003 to September 9, 2003. Exhibiting space is anticipated to grow to 50,000 m2, standard booths to 2,600, and companies attending to 1,200, including 350 foreign companies. This will make China International Optoelectronic Exposition the largest optoelectronic exhibition in the world.
China International Optoelectronic Exposition (CIOE), showcasing the most advanced technologies and products in the optoelectronic world, has earned respect worldwide. |
