Plug-In Receiver
Like a standardized light bulb can be used in a variety of lamps, different concentrator modules could be designed around a standardized Plus-In Receiver. The Receiver contains the solar cell, a protection diode, electrical contacts, and a heat spreader, all encapsulated in a compact package that passes all standard qualification tests. A matching socket further simplifies the integration of this Receiver in the module design. The system allows in-the-field replacement of defective Receivers or upgrade of a module as newer, more efficient solar cells become available.

Micro-Concentrator:
A flat-plate concentrator system with a thickness of about an inch can be made by using small size TIR (Total Internal Reflection) lenses. SunPower has been developing this concept with real prototypes to explore cost-effective materials and manufacturing processes.
