ColorChip has introduced exciting new concepts - including SystemOnGlass™ (SOG™) and Wafer-Scale Photonics Packaging – to the fiber optics communications industry. SOG™ is an extension of the company’s revolutionary Ion-Exchange PLC Waveguides-in-Glass, which are created through a process that is significantly faster, easier, and more cost-effective than other procedures. This process enables lowest insertion loss and polarization dependent loss (PDL), highest channel uniformity, ultra wide band, and exceptional robustness. ColorChip’s SOG™ utilizes no free space elements whatsoever - no thin film filters, no lenses, no mirrors. On a single glass surface that can be easily mounted on a PCB, it integrates, by surface mounting, commercial laser diodes, photodiodes, and other electronic and electro-optical elements – to create the first-of-its-kind SOG™. The company’s technology has clear advantages, and meets the standards for all types of PONs, including BPON (ITU-T G.983), EPON/GEPON (IEEE 802.3ah) and GPON (ITU-T G.984).
